Step 1) Setup an easy and reliable way for visitors to subscribe. This could be on your website, blog, or even Facebook page. This does not have to be a highly-complicated process! If you think you need an automated subscribing system, with welcoming messages and unsubscribe options, you are wrong. Rather, your subscribing system can be as simple as “email me “here” if you would like to receive the next copy of my fantastic Ezine!” Short, sweet, and simple.
Step 2) Pick A Title For Your Ezine. You only get this opportunity once, so pick wisely! Remember, make your title relate to the specific topic of your Ezine. Bonus points for rhymes, and/or catchy phrases.
Step 3) Select the best format for your Ezine. In general, there are three basic methods to present your editions:
- HTML Format. If you plan on posting your Ezine on your website, this is most likely the best option for you. You can add font colors, pictures, advertisements, flashy templates, video, and other media into an HTML based format.
- Plain Text. If you do not own a website, or have no interest in publishing your copies onto one, then you have one option left, emailing. Unfortunately, most emails no longer accept HTML format. You will still be able to place your content and pictures, but no advertisements (unless you are affiliating with regular text ads).
- Document or PDF Format. If you want a download-able Ezine, than this is the right option for you. Simply put out your articles onto a Word Document, add pictures, and export as a PDF. You can then upload this file to your web-page, or attach it to outgoing emails. I do not believe it is possible to place Adsense ads into a PDF, but you can place simple images with links back to your website. Going further, you might consider inserting a few affiliate links and generate income that way.
Step 4) Get sources for your content.
Once again, there are multiple options here:
- You. The simplest way to fill your Ezine with content is to add it yourself! Of course, there are multiple cons to this situation. First, you may very easily run out of ideas to write articles on. Second, you might get bored of constructing the next issue of your Ezine. Third, it is very possible that your subscribers will grow tired of listening to you.
- Subscribers. If they like reading it, maybe they will enjoy writing it! You can setup a simple web form to allow your subscribers to submit their articles (I recommend Response-O-Matic, Google it). Unfortunately, you will have to include their links, which may guide traffic away from you.
- Article Directories. There are, literally, millions of articles floating around on directories waiting to be republished. The article you are reading is one of them. Feel free to republish articles from popular directories like Ezine Articles, Articles Base, and Article Dashboard. Note: Each article directory has a separate set of rules for publishers. Make sure to analyze these before you republish so you don’t end up doing something illegal.
Step 5) Monetize. Now that the content
is added, you need to provide a way for your readers to generate some cash for you. Sneak a few advertisements between articles. Once again, with an HTML Ezine, use Google AdSense. With a plain text or PDF Ezine, use affiliate text ads.
Step 6) Publish and spread! Your Ezine is finished, so tell your friends, email it to your contacts, and spread the word offline. Consider making your own RSS feed for your Ezine so you can frequently inform the Net about your updates and new editions.
Final Tip: You may want to consider making a blog for your Ezine. Here a few benefits of having a blog:
- Blogs are free to create. I recommend using blogger (a free blog site hosted by Google).
- HTML is accepted. With that in mind, you can use a blog regardless of what format it is in.
- Easily monetize. Blogger allows you to easily slip AdSense ads between posts and on sidebars.
- Allows subscribers to give feedback. This will allow you to fix any err
